About UsHeather Cook has won all nine scholarships she has ever applied for. The first two were through the Civil Air Patrol during high school, based purely on merit, to use for college tuition; the Florence Ferman award for $5,000, awarded to the one most outstanding female cadet of the year in California, and the Edward Doyle award for $500 for the most promising cadet in California. Her next scholarship was through Santa Monica Community College, competing against over 200 other applicants from the entire student body of 30,000, in an essay competition; she placed first and received a check for $800. Five scholarships were from private donors through St. John’s College in Santa Fe, NM, for use toward her bachelor’s degree at that institution. Her most recent scholarship was through the Ninety Nines International, for $1,500 toward her private pilot license. She has since completed her license and now enjoys flying over her old college campus, and everything else in northern New Mexico. While looking for scholarships to help fund her private pilot license, she was continually frustrated by the number of scholarships she found but could not qualify for. The Ninety-Nines came through for her, but she knew there must be others out there that she simply could not find. Ever enterprising, she decided to make the search less frustrating for other aspiring pilots and aviation professionals, and to compile this directory of every scholarship in the aviation industry that she could find. The Aviation Scholarship Directory is the result of her determination, and her further commitment to continue producing and updating this directory to make it the best resource possible. |
